Meet Coach Michael
Coach Michael leads Podium Throws with a focus on clear, progression-based instruction across shot put, discus, hammer, and javelin. With 10+ years of coaching, he has developed athletes from beginner youth throwers through collegiate scholarship-earners at D1, mid-major, and D2 programs — including Kiana Lowery and Kacie Rhodes. Multiple All-American honors, school and district records, and conference titles have come out of the program. Every session is built on the same loop: train, review video together, correct, and assign homework — so athletes always know exactly what they're working on, why it matters, and how to apply it.

Darius Smith
Darius has had a passion for throwing since high school in the 1990s. While he played football on scholarship at Texas A&M University and SHSU, he has remained dedicated to the sport of throwing. He currently works in Conroe ISD and recently coached his daughter, a top state thrower at Conroe High, who earned a Division 1 athletic scholarship in April 2026.
